Tour of the galleries in the Pitti Palace
This tour takes you to the discovery of the beautiful treasures of the Pitti Palace. This splendid residence of the Medici Grand Dukes, the Absburg family and the King of Italy today houses many museums.
The Palatine Gallery
The main floor of the Pitti Palace houses the opulent rooms of the Apartments of the Grandukes of Tuscany with the Audience Hall, the Bedrooms and The Bathrooms. The walls and the ceilings are decorated with rich frescoes and golden stuccos and you will admire the beautiful masterworks of the Palatine Gallery with paintings by Raphael, Titian, Rubens, Caravaggio and Ancient Roman sculptures.
The tour includes the visit of the Royal Apartments where the first King of Italy lived when Florence was the Capital of the Italian Kingdom; you will see the Throne Room, the King's and the Queen's Bedrooms and their private Chapel.
The Treasure of the Grandukes
On the ground floor of the Pitti Palace, where once were the Summer Apartments of the Medici Grandukes, you will admire their rich collections of beautiful jewels, precious crystal vases, amber and ivory pieces and refined objects from the 15th to the 20th century.
The Modern Art Gallery
The visit continues on the second floor of the Pitti Palace which houses the Gallery of Italian Modern Art, where is a very important collection of paintings and sculptures from the Neo Classical period to the 1930s with special focus on the works of the group of Tuscan artists known as the "Macchiaioli" whose best representative is Giovanni Fattori.
During the visit you will learn about the Prince's lifestyle in the Pitti Palace, its history, the rules of the Tuscan Court, the ceremonies, the curiousities and a world which doesn't exist any more but whose traces and atmospheres are still visible and tell us of sumptuous weddings, concerts and feasts.
